Ventilated bottom boards help manage Varroa mites by allowing naturally fallen mites to exit the hive, reducing reattachment. Although this doesn’t directly treat mites, it can lower mite stress on the hive, especially during times when treatments aren’t feasible, like long honey flows. Studies suggest that using vented boards between treatments can cut Varroa mite levels by up to a third. While this supports hive health, it’s not a replacement for regular, effective treatments.
