A sticky tug of war has arisen over the right to the “manuka honey” label — the name attached to a pricey variety whose superfood status has won it fans from TV’s Kourtney Kardashian to tennis star Novak Djokovic.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service on Wednesday proposed listing the rusty patched bumble bee, a prized but vanishing pollinator once widely found in the upper Midwest and Northeastern United States, for federal protection as an endangered species.
